Duke University Raises Hourly Wages to $20 for Eligible Staff
Duke University has announced that eligible employees will earn $20 per hour starting this summer, a move that translates to roughly $41,000 annually for full-time staff working 40 hours each week.
The university system indicates that more than 4,000 workers at Duke University and Duke University Health System will receive this pay increase.
In addition, about 9,000 employees who have longer tenure and whose current wages are near the new minimum will receive an extra wage adjustment to honor their experience and years of service, according to Duke.
Furthermore, contractors who employ full-time personnel on Duke’s campus will be expected to meet the new $20 minimum wage.
Duke’s pay scale has been gradually rising in recent years: the minimum wage increased to $12 per hour in 2015 and to $18 per hour in 2024.
Duke notes that the new $20 minimum will place it among the leading institutions for minimum wages among regional universities and health systems in North Carolina.
