Halfbrick, the Australian mobile game developer behind popular titles like Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, has made some tough decisions during a challenging period for the gaming industry. The company has cut 41 jobs and ended a number of international engagements, despite expressing gratitude for the contributions of those affected.
In a statement on LinkedIn, Halfbrick acknowledged the difficult choices they had to make, emphasizing that these changes were driven by organizational and strategic priorities, not individual performance. The company assured that the affected individuals have played a significant role in shaping their games and supporting players, and they are truly grateful for their efforts.
The statement continued, expressing appreciation for the impact of those who were let go, and the company's commitment to handling the transition with care and respect. Halfbrick's latest game, Bluey's Quest for the Gold Pen, was released on iOS in December 2025 and on Android in January 2026, with console and PC versions expected to follow on May 28, 2026.
This recent restructuring follows a similar event in 2018 when Halfbrick laid off more than half of its staff, leaving fewer than 30 employees. The remaining team focused on live operations for Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, indicating a strategic shift in the company's direction.
