Liverpool's retail scene is about to get a shake-up! In a few days, a new discount chain will unveil its first-ever store in the heart of the city centre, marking a significant moment for bargain hunters. But here's the twist: it's replacing a beloved beauty brand that recently met its demise.
The highly anticipated opening comes after months of vacancy at the former Bodycare store in Clayton Square. Back in September, the high-street beauty giant announced the closure of this location, along with 30 others across the UK, following its administration. Administrators cited stock shortages and the high costs of running physical stores as the reasons for this drastic decision.
The closure led to a dramatic 'everything must go' sale, attracting shoppers with its countdown to the final days. Now, a new player is stepping in. Savers, a discount retailer owned by the same company as Superdrug, is set to fill the void, offering a similar range of products.
Savers will provide shoppers with a wide array of branded health, beauty, and household products at discounted prices. From toiletries and cosmetics to skincare, haircare, and even baby products, it's a one-stop shop for all your daily essentials. And the best part? The opening day, January 22nd, will be a celebration with 500 goody bags worth over £15 each, given away to the first 500 lucky customers.
Sean Watret, Savers Stores Operations Director, expressed his excitement, promising unbeatable prices and a comprehensive range of beloved brands. This new store also brings job opportunities, creating 10 new positions in the area.
While this is Savers' debut in Liverpool's city centre, the brand is not new to Merseyside, with existing stores in Birkenhead, Wallasey, Bootle, and Old Swan. The new store's arrival adds another chapter to Clayton Square's rich history, which began 36 years ago.
Over the years, Clayton Square has welcomed and bid farewell to numerous brands, including big names like Tammy Girl, Principles, Disney, and Oasis. It has evolved, with a major makeover in 2014, transforming it into a single trading mall. But the question remains: will Savers thrive in this location, or will it face the same fate as its predecessor? Only time will tell, and the opinions of Liverpool's shoppers will surely be divided.
