Tripwire Interactive Lays Off 23 Employees: Gaming Studio Restructures (2026)

Killing Floor developer Tripwire Interactive has announced layoffs affecting 23 employees, as the studio works to align with shifting market realities while staying focused on its creative ambitions. The Georgia-based company stated on LinkedIn that the changes are needed to adapt to how the gaming industry is evolving, and that they will continue progress on current projects both in-house and under their publishing label.

Former producer Seher Basak, displaced by the cuts, indicated in a separate post that roles across QA, art, engineering, and customer support were affected. Basak described the decision as incredibly difficult and one that required careful consideration given its impact on affected individuals and the broader team. The studio expressed gratitude for the contributions of those who departed and pledged to support them through the transition. Tripwire also affirmed its ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality game experiences and to supporting its players, partners, and community during this period of change.

Tripwire Interactive was founded in 2005 by John Gibson and Alan Wilson. Gibson stepped down as CEO in 2021 after controversial remarks, with Wilson serving as interim CEO. Matthew LoPilato, who previously served as CFO, was promoted to CEO in 2024.

The company joined the Embracer Group in 2022 via its Saber Interactive subsidiary. Embracer later sold Saber Interactive for $247 million in 2024, but Tripwire remained under Embracer’s umbrella, alongside studios and publishers such as Zen Studios, 4A Games, Beamdog, Tuxedo Labs, Demiurge, Shiver, Aspyr, Snapshot, and 34 Big Things.

Contemporary industry shifts continue to press studios like Tripwire to recalibrate staffing while pursuing ongoing and upcoming titles.
